Two Recognized For STOP-DWI Efforts

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator, James May and Vestal Police Officer, Joseph Kennedy were recently selected by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to receive awards for their anti-DWI efforts.

Jim May was one of only two individuals selected statewide to receive the Safe and Sober STOP-DWI Coordinator Award for 2002. Mr. May is being recognized for his outstanding dedication to highway safety and anti-DWI efforts in New York State.

Officer Joseph Kennedy is the Vestal Police Departments STOP-DWI patrol officer. He is one of fourteen officers chosen statewide to receive DCJS and MADD'S Top Cop Award, for his outstanding job performance and dedication to highway safety and anti-DWI efforts in New York State.

Mr. May and Officer Kennedy will be honored along with other award recipients at a luncheon in Albany on Tuesday, November 19, 2002.

Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator, Jim May was also recently selected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) to attend a National Summit on Impaired Driving.

Participants from all disciplines of the criminal justice system were selected from each state to attend the Summit, which will focus on identifying problems, and solutions in regards to impaired driving offenses and issues.

The Summit will be held on November 21 and November 22, 2002 in Washington, D.C.
