It is best to call the clinic or physician office before going to find out if you are considered at high-risk for complications of influenza.
The viruses that cause flu change frequently so persons at high-risk for complications of influenza should get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine from last year will not provide protection against the flu this year. Pneumococcal vaccine is also recommended for persons who are at increased risk for complications from influenza. Pneumococcal disease causes infections such as pneumonia or infections in the blood or in the lining of the brain. Ask your health care provider about getting the pneumococcal vaccine.
The Broome County Health Department will notify the public of the revised Health Department and Senior Center schedule as soon as sufficient vaccine is available. In the meantime, individuals are encouraged to call their health care provider to inquire about the flu vaccine.
