Kirkwood Water Wins Taste Test 2ND Year in a Row!

BINGHAMTON, NY -- On Saturday, May 6, 2000, 138 participants voted for the best tasting water in a celebration of Water Week. The blind water taste test, hosted by the Broome County Health Department at EarthFest, offered drinking water samples from five of Broome County’s public water suppliers. This taste test was the first level in the statewide competition. The winner will go on to a regional contest and then possibly to the State Finals.

Again this year, participants voted the Town of Kirkwood water the best tasting. In 1999, Town of Kirkwood went on to win the designation of Best Tasting Water in New York State. In this year’s taste test, participants had a chance to sample water from the Town of Kirkwood, the Village of Endicott, the City of Binghamton, the Town of Chenango, and the Town of Vestal. Participants chose their two top favorites and the voting came out as follows:

Congratulations to the Town of Kirkwood and best wishes at the Regionals!

While taste is a good indicator of aesthetic quality, customers of these and other water supplies are reminded that information on the chemical quality of their water is available in the water supply summary distributed to them each year. Questions on water quality can be directed to the water supplier or the Broome County Health Department, Division of Environmental Health Services, 607.778.288
