Municipal leaders in Broome County, New York are currently working together to find ways of improving municipal services or saving money through shared services and intermunicipal cooperation. This page is the official source of information about this effort so please check it often to find out the latest shared services news.

Latest Updates
- Broome awarded $500,000 Shared Municiple Service Incentive (SMSI) grant to join NYS Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP). [ learn More ] The County will continue to apply for additional SMSI grant opportunities.
- The Village of Endicott saved an average of $70,000 per year in 2005, 2006, 2007 through the Inter-municipal agreement with the County for labor relations and labor contract negotiations. The County gained nearly $23,000 in revenue from 2005-2007.
- Binghamton/Johnson City Waste Water Treatment Plant Labor relations savings for 2007= $5,068.
- The Town of Union has recently contracted with the County to carry out labor relations as well. The County encourages other municipalities to consider contracting for these services.
- County now performs City of Binghamton tax collection—an estimated $100,000 yearly savings for the City and in 2007, earned the county $584,000.
- Shared fuel station at the BC highway garage for the Town of Chenango saving the town $500,000.
- 7 local initiatives identified by Governor Spitzer's Local Government Efficiency and Competitiveness Commission [ learn more ]
- Police consolidation plan identifies a $9.5 million savings over a five year period 2009—2013.
