Greater Binghamton Airport Schedule Updates Newsletter

The airport is in the midst of a busy construction season that includes installation of a new cutting edge runway safety technology called Engineered Material Arresting Systems or EMAS. Consisting of high-energy absorbing, lightweight crushable concrete blocks, the EMAS material will be installed on both ends of the airport's primary runway (16/34). Covering the full width of the runway, these blocks will serve as a protective safety cushion at both ends of the runway. This is where the safety enhancement lies - the EMAS blocks will progressively and safely stop aircraft before it overruns the runway surface. When all is said and done, the airport gains a vital safety enhancement that would, if necessary, save lives and property - all without losing important usable runway space to product installation. Annual Air Show Postponed
Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty of the impending changes in air show security, and budgetary concerns, we will be postponing our Annual Air Show event until the Summer of 2003.
