Nearing the start of 2003, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Screeners at airports across the country officially began screening all baggage checked by outgoing passengers. At the Greater Binghamton Airport, we have worked in conjunction with the TSA to devise a customer friendly and secure manner to screen all checked luggage processed through our facility. Our approach has been to implement a program that elevates security to its highest level, while still maintaining the convenience the local travelers have come to expect at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

With this new checked baggage screening system, which has been implemented at a few select airports across the country, passengers will approach the airline check-in counters at BGM in the very same method as they have in the past. After placing their luggage to be checked in the bag wells, the check-in process will begin. Simultaneously, as the airline customer service representative is assigning a passenger their seat and printing their boarding pass, a TSA representative is working beside them processing their luggage through security screening equipment. In just a few short minutes the entire process is complete!

Since the implementation of this new program on December 31, 2002, TSA Screeners have performed extremely well processing outbound passenger's checked baggage quickly and safely. Through the efforts of these well-trained TSA professionals, travelers continue to move from initial check-in to boarding their flight in no more than one hour at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
