Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities (MRDD)

Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities (MRDD) Subcommittee of the Community Services Board
The MRDD subcommittee can be a place to start in finding information and connections regarding agencies that provide services to citizens with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.. Membership includes individuals with developmental disabilities and/or their family members, advocates and representatives from local, state and not-for-profit organizations who share a common concern for the quality of MRDD services.

The committee is a subcommittee of the Mental Health Department Community Services Board and is composed of 3 members of the Community Services Board and 6 at large members. The committee meets monthly (except during July and August) on the third floor of the Broome County Mental health Department, One Hawley Street, Binghamton from noon until 1:30 PM. Most of the meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month but there are a couple of exceptions. Though the committee does not provide direct services it does serve as a clearinghouse of information and connections for people looking for MRDD services in Broome County. To this end the committee published a booklet entitled Broome County's Guide to Services for Individuals with Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities and Their Families. Some of the services listed in the booklet include family support programs, services coordination, day programs and residential programs. The committee also advises the commissioner of Mental Health on a variety of service needs and issues.
